1 Peter 1:13-19.
If you believe that God wants me happy above all else, then whatever makes me happy must be right, and whatever makes me unhappy must be wrong. There’s a fundamental problem when people believe this. Scripture teaches us to be holy in 1 Peter 1:16: “For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” However, many people translate it this way: “You must be happy because I am happy.” That's not what it says, because the Bible teaches us that just as God who called you is holy, we're to be holy and set apart in all we do. If we will do this, then we won’t end up doing things that are wrong or unwise in the pursuit of happiness.
