October 28 Sermon - Baptism: A Matter of Death and Life
Baptism A Matter of Death and Life Matthew 3:13-17
I am excited that we as a church will be celebrating once again in
a baptismal service. I thought it might be good to take a closer look at the Baptism of Jesus. When Jesus came to John the Baptist, John said, we are doing this all wrong, you don’t need me to baptize you in water, I need you to baptize me. The question that comes out is why did Jesus insist on being baptized, and what was so significant that it was essential for Him to do it? Jesus said he was doing it to be obedient, which certainly speaks volume to why we should be faithful and obedient. It was also a symbolic foretelling of Christ’s death and resurrection. When we are baptized, we proclaim that we are buried with Him in death and raised to walk in newness of life.
